SYMPTOMS OF GOITER AND FOODS TO EAT TO AVOID IT
GOITER is known to be a condition in which the thyroid gland in the neck grows larger. Through observation, it has been said that thyroid gland is a small, shaped gland seen in the neck, below the Adam's apple.
Study has help us to know that the thyroid gland produces the hormones thyroxine also called T4 and TRIIODOYHYRONINE also called T3.
Further, it has been made known that these hormones plays a part in certain bodily functions including body temperature, mood and excitability, the pulse rate, digestion etc.
CAUSES OF GOITER
1) SIMPLE GOITERS: These develops when the thyroid gland does not make enough hormones to meet the body's needs, therefore, the thyroid gland tries to make up for this shortage by growing larger.
2) ENDEMIC GOITERS: This goiter happens in people in specific larts of the world who do not get enough iodine in their diet.
3) SPORADIC GOITERS: There is no known cause of this type of goiter. But, In some cases, certain drugs can cause it, for example, the drug lithium which is used to treat certain mental health conditions.
SIGNS OF GOITER
1) There is swelling in the front of the neck, below the Adam's apple
2) Individual has feeling of tightness in the throat area
3) There is dizziness when the arms are raised above the head
4) Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath
5) Coughing
6) There is difficulty in swallowing
7) Feeling of being tired
FOODS TO EAT IF YOU HAVE GOITER
1) Eat dairy products such as yogurt, ice cream, and milk which contains iodine.
2) Also eat eggs,fish,meat,and other protein which contain healthy amounts of iodine.
3) Fruits and Vegetables should be eaten every day.
4) Eat foods on higher fibre starchy foods like potatoes, bread, rice and pasta.
