HOW TO GROW AN APPLE TREE AT HOME



          You can grow apples from seed, but keep in mind that the type of apple tree you end up with might not be the same as the seed you planted. For example, if you planted a  Granny Smith apple tree. It might be some other type of apple from the Granny Smith lineage. If you want to plant an apple tree from seed, there are several things you will need to do to increase your chances of success.


SIMULATING WINTER

1) Collect two different kinds of seeds.

2) Lay your seeds out to dry.

3) Cover your seeds with a damp paper towel.

4) Place your seeds in the fridge.

5) Check very often to make sure that the towel stays damp.


POTTING THE SPROUTS

1) Prepare your pot and soil.

2) Place the seeds in the divots of soil.

3) Keep the pot at room temperature.

4) Watch your seedlings for growth.


PLANTING YOUR SEEDLINGS OUTSIDE

1) Pick a location for your tree(s).

2) Know when the conditions are right for transplanting.

3) Remove any unwanted weeds in a four- foot diameter of the planting site.

4) Water the tree in well to eliminate air pocket.


CARING FOR YOUR TREE

1) Water your tree. 

2) Ward off pests.

3) Fertilize your tree when it has gotten older.

4) Hold off on pruning a young tree.

5) Training your tree.

6) Thin excessive fruit.

7) Prune a mature tree annually.
