HERBS TO SUPPLEMENT POULTRY FEED AND DRUGS
Herbs reduces the cost of poultry production by a greater percentage. They lower the expenses by a quantifiable amount.
WHAT HERBS ARE ESSENTIAL FOR CHICKEN?
Plant materials which are succulent but not hairy and which are proven to have appreciable nutrients can be used. Examples of such herbs include:
PAWPAW LEAVES: When dried they contain 70 % crude protein. They can be dried, crushed and mixed with poutlry feeds. The leaf extracts also contain anthelminthic property which is an effective poultry dewormer.
GINGER: It has been proven to contain effective antibiotic and antiviral traits. It can be used as an alternative in treatment of coccidiosis disease.
GARLIC: It is an effective antibiotic, it can be served to chicken in whole or mixed with ginger.
ALOEVERA: The liquid juice from aloe vera can be mixed with water to cure a variety of poultry diseases as well as strengthening the birds immunity. It cures gumboro disease when used on daily basis.
CHRISTMAS MELON: Commonly known as Tangiri is one of the highly sorted herbs in cure of the common and very dangerous Newcastle disease. It is classified as an antiviral herb.
BLACK JACK: (bidens pilosa) this herb which grows as a weed with a great self propagation rate, is sorted to be used as a feed to poulty.
There is no specific dosage for herbs to poultry, however; it should be noted that chicks at a very young age ( 1-3 weeks) should be excempted from a high dosage of herbal properties as their immunity may not withstand the dosage.
They are served orally by mixing with poutlry feeds and clean drinking water.
Birds' raised organically have an improved immune system and are healthy for human consumption. They are also highly productive.
